Kaya Behkalam
Kaya Behkalam is a visual artist, film maker, and writer. Until 2015 he worked as Assistant Professor of Time-Based Media at the American University in Cairo. His video-, installation- and text-based works explore the entanglements of historiography, image, and media politics. Behkalam’s long term research project Seeing History explores archival practices and changing medialities of the historical in post-revolutionary Cairo. Among other places his works have been shown at Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin; Eye Beam, New York; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Azad Gallery, Tehran, and the third Guangzhou Triennial. He is the author of Damascus: Tourists, Artists, Secret Agents (2010).
