Mwape J. Mumbi
Mwape J. Mumbi is a cultural worker and emerging curator. His independent practice includes filmmaking, photography, creative writing and promotion of African arts and culture in his Zambian hometown of Kabwe at the iChilumba Arts & Foundation, a non-profit he co-founded. Mumbi explores (indigenous) knowledge production in collaborations with artists in video, film, visual and performance art in group or individual exhibitions. His socially engaged projects aim at showing the critical role of arts practice in private and public spaces through mediating, interpreting and presenting pre- and post-colonial arts, alternative theory and an assertive local visual culture.
