Joe Karaganis

Joe Karaganis is the vice president at The American Assembly, a public policy institute at Columbia University. Karaganis directs digital culture and information policy projects, with a focus on copyright and access to knowledge. His publications include Shadow Libraries: Access to Knowledge in Global Higher Education (2018) and Notice and Takedown in Everyday Practice (2016). His other work in this area includes Copy Culture in the US and Germany (2013) and Media Piracy in Emerging Economies (2011). Karaganis also directs The Open Syllabus Project – a research platform that maps the curricular universe based on millions of university syllabi.
