From August 16 to 21, the Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin offer a unique program of screenings, temporary exhibitions, performances, VR experiences and discussions, gathering 128 works from 43 countries by internationally renowned artists alongside young artists presented for the first time.
Artistic directors Nathalie Hénon and Jean-François Rettig curated the program and invite artists, audiences and professionals to discuss current issues in contemporary image culture and to discover and reflect on new documentaries, experimental fictions, videos, hybrid and multimedia forms.
After the Paris edition in May 2022 at the Louvre, Centre Pompidou and Beaux-Arts de Paris, the whole program will now be shown in HKW’s auditorium.
Among the twenty screening sessions presented this year are works by Rosa Barba, George Drivas, Dora Garcia, Tamar Guimaraes, Cécile Hartmann, Salomé Lamas, Natacha Nisic, Leighton Pierce, Laure Prouvost, Rajee Samarasinghe, John Smith and Wendelien van Oldenborgh. Screening sessions and artist talks will be streamed live.
Highlights of the video exhibition program include Mojana by Simon(e) Jaikiriuma Paetau, The Single Screen, a monumental video performance by artist Joëlle Tuerlinckx, and What the Robot Saw, a multimedia work generated in real-time by Amy Alexander.
Virtual reality works are presented as Collages and Utopia, including The Subterranean Imprint Archive by Francois Knoetze and Amy Louise Wilson, a research project on contemporary resource extraction strategies and technopolitical legacies.
