Padmini Chettur
at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz

Padmini Chettur is an outstanding personality in the Indian dance scene. With the radical nature of her work, she embodies a new generation which clearly differentiates itself from classical Indian dance – without, however, completely negating it. Her new program, which recently met with an enthusiastic reception at the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris, takes the form of a three-part solo evening. The theme of all three parts is the phenomenon of locomotion. Here the focus is on the type of movement, not the distance it covers: an “homage to the firmly rooted body” (motion without locomotion), an “homage to the innermost” (expansion and contraction of the centre) and an “homage to the feet” (motion without end).
Padmini Chettur takes the viewer along on a journey which examines the nature of journeying itself. On this basis she develops a dance full of emotional power and beauty.

Organized by the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz and the Goethe Institute in cooperation with the House of World Cultures.
