Third Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art - Brisbane/Australia, 1999/2000
From 9.9.1999 - 26.1.2000, APT3 will showcase the work of over 75 artists from Asia & the Pacific. As well, the major Conference 'Beyond the Future', 10-12.9.1999, will explore issues relevant to cultural life in the region. Other special events include artists performances, talks, digital art, an online discussion forum and kids' apt.
Global Conceptualism, Points of Origin, 1950s -1980s
The exhibition examines key moments when artists in various locales around the world began to create conceptual art as a means to question the hegemony of the object over ideas in art, critique the way art is institutionalized both in museums and in modern economies, and find a new role for art and the artist in society by involving art in social and political protest. Headed by project leaders Jane Farver, Luis Camnitzer and Rachel Weiss, exhibition planning has been made in concert with a team of eleven international curators. 2. Kwangju Biennial: Unmapping the Earth - 1997
1 September - 27 November, 1997. Over 113 artists and 11 art groups participated in this international contemporary art show. The Main Exhibition consisted of 5 sections organized around the five subthemes of Speed/Water, Space/Fire, Hybrid/Wood, Power/Metal, and Becoming/Earth. Very informative web-site on the international event. Participating artists from 63 countries, 20 of them from Africa, at 15 exhibition venues in central Johannesburg. Numerous parallel activities. Very informative website includes the curatorial essay of each country´s presentation with some images, as well as all the catalogue texts.
