I had mentioned earlier too that a large number of US public libraries offer Internet access either free or for a small sum. Here in India, we have dozens of Internet cafes sprouting up every so often. They claim they have high speed lines, and offer 30 minutes connectivity for something like Rs. 50 ( about $1). During this time, one can easily pick up one's mail, and surf some too. Some enterprising folks have come up with email solutions for Indians living in the smaller towns with poor or no Internet. If a friend or family member living abroad wishes to send them email, he sends it to this portal, which in turn snail-mails it free of charge to the recipient anywhere in India.
