If we accept this as real, my question is: How does Art move us beyond t= hese fatal philosopies of Materialism and Militarism. St, John seems to admonish a closer contact with God through Art and that= our pursuit of pleasure should be thus directed. It is interesting to me after 2000 years of the Christian era, that we re= turn to this time to ask - what is the purpose of pleasure. I understand that this may be difficult for those who do not believe in G= od. But why has Christianity down played pleasure and promoted guilt which over the 2000 years has contributed to = many problems, and perhaps even resulted in the culture of Materialism and Militarism which we experience today as= a global culture. Peter PS. I don't know why I am posting this as "Charlie Brown and Mafalda are= back". But I would be interested to hear from others on the problem outlined above.
