I am aware of the dubious first-world-third-world marketing of technologies, which is most insidious in the way first-world pharmaceutical companies market unstable drugs and even dangerous birth control devices to the third world to offset their research and development costs. Also, to reply to your other comment, the older generation of computer users, in this country at least, want their independence, but still want connectivity with their family. Often their age and health problems keep them from traveling long distances, so the picture is not as bleak as you think.
