I just put out the english version a week ago. Concerning the sensation-exhibition I saw here in Berlin, I don't remember anything that really touched me and that's what I'm still hoping for. I like the works of Rachael Whiteread, for example, which are more silent, and Sarah Lucas, I think, puts ideas to a point, too, even though not very silent. But I seldom find works that really impress and inspire me, and there is a lot of art shown here in Berlin, you can't even follow all. It's difficult to explain where exactly I feel this lack. For me, most just looks kind of 'fancy'. Fancy expressionists, fancy concepts, fancy 'gags'. We have a great freedom in expression possibilities and usage of materials, anything can be done, but this freedom leads often to insignificance. You can do any provocation you imagine, cutting up beasts, using elephant dung, etc, but first it doesn't provoke anyboy anymore (in the art world, at least), and second, does provocation for itself make sense? What do you provoke for in such a society of social welfare, richness (at least for the biggest part of people) and luxury. I have to think of Parthas mail (matters of fact) writing this. I mean, the biggest part of the world really is involved in other problems than cutting up a cow and putting it in box for exhibition. But we are just jumping around in this art circus, as Juan Josˇ said the other day. I would be interested in learning from the members of this forum, where they find inspiring art. see you, Maria mail@zukunst.de
