Dear Karin:

I remember a friend of mine from Taos, New Mexico, who was of both
American Indian and Spanish descent, telling me that she had heard the
tale of La Llorona as a child in Taos.  Her grandmother told her when
the wind howled down the gourge of the Rio Grande that it was La Llorona
who had lost her children some tragic way which I don't remember and
wailed through the night in grief. Little children were not to go out
alone at night for fear that she would snatch them to replace her lost
family.
