She said a lament something like "Aye, no pipiltin..." "Ay, mis hijos" (oh, my children"). And this was and maybe is a very common thing about this. That is very congruent with Cihua-pipiltin and with la Llorona (the Craying Woman"). I believe the classical mith have no much differences with the teachings I heard when I was a children. To me it is not different from its classical origin, maybe because part of my family are Nahuatl speakers from Mexico city (Tlahuac Ticic). And the various personal differences that appeared after are based on the Spanish influence, the distance from the original source and the creativity of different peoples which, at the end, made different stories and maybe they are also related to other traditions. But the original and "mainstream" Llorona is quite near to what I knew and it is widely supported by oral traditions, documents of the time 5 centuries ago in Nahuatl and Spanish, codexes and etc... but most of all, the children who was rised under the misteries behind our window... secure on our beds, knowing that, in the dark of the night, outside our home, the Llorona was wandering and our best choice was to sleep... we have kept her alive and wandering, in stories, novels, poems, movies, paintings, and even in the virtual space. :-) regards Jose Tlatelpas ------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------ * La Guirnalda Polar * Redvista cultural en Canada http://www.vcn.bc.ca/spcw/guirnald.htm * The Spanish Canadian Web * Informacion relevante en Canada http://www.vcn.bc.ca/spcw/welcome.htm ------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------
