Before seeing a graph of those wired worldwide, I had the illusion the
web was spreading at a tremendous rate.  The web is expanding but not
everywhere.  The following information is from WorldWatch magazine.


The U.N. Human Development Report 1999 shows that
outside the OECD, only fractions of 1% of the population have Internet
access.  The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development
accounts for 19% of the world's people and has expanded from Europe and
North America to include Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Finland, Mexico,
the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Korea.

The great challenge, it seems to me, is to think of ways to expand
access, which many on the list seem to be doing.
