Gerhard Haupt, moderator of the forum "Cultural Exchange via
Internet" wrote in his latest circular:
> please keep in mind that the forum will come to an end in just about 3 weeks. If you wish to contribute your opinions and experiences to the debate, you should do it soon, to give the others a chance to comment and answer.
After the end of the forum (4 December) the website, including the contribution's archive will remain on the net.
Why is that? Because funds are available only for a limited period of
time? Do we really need funds to keep an interaction going which has
just started to reach out? Why should it not be possible to continue?
What has been the the interest to trigger such a forum in the first
place? If it is of academic nature, ending up in another publication
only, it would be certainly of interest to academics, but such a
forum should also consider practitioners who might not be interested
to have an occasional glimpse on the contribution's archive once the
whole thing ends.
The use of Internet should be a synergic one, it allows permanent
update and continued interaction, and a search for new alliances
which should not fall victim to a deadline.
Communication software should allow cost-free communication, may be
without moderator, summaries and language versions beyond English.
Don't shut everything behind the door of an archive.
