Founded in 1828 in present-day Wuppertal, the Rhenish Mission significantly shaped 19th-century colonial propaganda. Director Jean-Marie Teno, now living in France, traces the mission's attempts to start Christian settlements in Africa. His journey leads from Germany to Namibia, South Africa, Togo and back to Cameroon, the country where he was born.
"When the missionaries came to Africa, they had the Bible and we had the land. They said: 'Let us pray'. We closed our eyes. When we opened them, we had the Bible and they had the land." (Desmond Tutu, Archbishop of Cape Town and Nobel Peace Price Laureate)
